If you’ve been looking for reasons why you should start a bullet journal then look no further.
Bullet journalling saved my life. There I said it. Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic but honestly, it really has had an amazing impact on my life. When I started my bullet journal back in 2018, I had no idea how much it would help me and I definitely didn’t know I’d start a blog about it!
I won’t bore you with my life story but let’s just say I’ve had a pretty rough ride when it comes to my mental health. I have had depression, anxiety and an eating disorder for varying amounts of time. Bullet journaling has helped me so much with everything from reducing anxiety to tracking my medication.
That’s enough oversharing for one day but what I’m trying to say is, bullet journaling really is something I believe everyone should have a go at. Regardless of if you have a mental illness or not, bullet journaling can help both your physical and mental health. Whilst having fun at the same time! What’s not to love?
Anyway, if my rambling hasn’t convinced you, here are 4 reasons you should start a bullet journal.
Bullet journaling is predominantly an organisational system so you won’t be surprised that this is one of the reasons you should start a bullet journal. Using a bullet journal will help you organise your life in one place! You can plan your day, week or even year in your bullet journal. With everything in one place, it’s easier to keep track of things you need to or want to do. This will help you be more productive too because you will know exactly what you have to get done and when! I truly believe my organisation and productivity has skyrocketed since using a bullet journal so I really recommend starting one.
2. Mental health
As I said before, my bullet journal has been a saviour for my mental health. You can use a bullet journal to track things such as medication and self-care habits. You can also track your daily mood and health to see if there are any patterns or triggers. I find bullet journaling therapeutic in itself but you can also create pages to ‘brain dump’ or write your feelings down.
3. Physical health
A lot of people (including myself) focus on the mental health benefits of bullet journaling BUT another reason why you should start a bullet journal is for your physical health. You can make spreads dedicated to logging your water intake, food intake, exercise and much more! You can also use a bullet journal to create goals and track them. I like to use my journal to plan meals especially when I have a super busy week as it helps me eat relatively healthy (rather than ordering in).
A bullet journal is a perfect place to get creative! A common myth about bullet journaling is that you have to be an artist to start a bullet journal but this is NOT true! Anyone can start a bullet journal, regardless of artistic talent. The most important thing is to have fun and get creative. This is your bullet journal, so make it your own! From doodles to quote pages, the possibilities are endless. If you are looking for some inspiration for beginner bullet journal spreads, check out my guest post over at Love, Em.
